INPUT Australia is organized as a ‘not for profit’ association, and is administered by the 2 Australian national coordinators appointed by the international INPUT board. It operates in collaboration with both Australian public broadcasters ABC and SBS, and with support from the national agency Screen Australia, State screen agencies, the Australian Director’s Guild and the Screen Producers Association of Australia.

·      INPUT Australia manages the selection of Australian programs for submission to the Input Conference

·      Organizes ‘Best Of INPUT’ screenings and discussions in Australia of programs shown at Input

·      Is organizing the international INPUT Conference to take place in Sydney in May 2012

Submission Guidelines For Australian Programs

INPUT is a public TV Conference, not a festival or a competition. As a ‘television’ event, the INPUT screening program comprises drama, documentary, and TV specific programs in equal measure, as well as new media projects. Any TV program made for a public network and that fits the definition of ‘TV in the public interest’ is eligible for submission.

·      INPUT seeks programs that are adventurous in terms of craft, challenging or provocative in content, programs that raise important broadcast issues or programs that expand the boundaries of public television

·      The heart of the INPUT Conference is the debate and discussion around screenings, so Input seeks programs that are good for discussion

·      Selectors are particularly interested in programs that are cross genre, programs with a new media element, and programs that open up important broadcasting issues or point to new directions for public broadcasters

Under the current Input guidelines, Australia can submit 6 programs for consideration for the annual INPUT Conference – a mixture of drama, documentary, new media and TV specific programming

The Australian selection is managed by the Australian INPUT National Coordinators, who make their recommendations in consultation with the ABC and SBS. However final selection for the Conference is made by the INPUT Shop Stewards who comprise the selection committee.

Submitting Your Program

Australian Film / television makers can propose their programs directly to the INPUT National Coordinators, or via their commissioning editor at SBS or the ABC.

·      The program needs to have been produced in the last 2 years, and to have been programmed for broadcast on a public TV network by the time of the next INPUT Conference in Seoul in early May 2011

·      If you choose to submit your program direct to the Australian National Coordinators you need to provide 3 audition DVD’s of your program. The deadline for receipt of DVD’s is December 1st 2010.

·      You also need to fill out an on-line registration form by the same date – December 1st 2010.

(Please ignore the 7th Jan deadline mentioned on the INPUT submission page, as this is the date for the Australian National Coordinators to provide the Australian recommendations to the Input selectors.)

·      The International INPUT Shop Steward selection panel will complete their selections by the end of February 2011.

·      Programs can only be screened at INPUT when represented by a key creative participant – normally the producer, director or commissioning editor. If your program is selected INPUT Australia will help you obtain travel support to attend the conference.

No fees are charged for submitting a program to INPUT.

INPUT Hub Library

Sydney is the site of one of five INPUT regional hub libraries, and DVD’s of all TV programs screened at INPUT since 2006 – over 400 titles – are held in an archive at the AFTRS library in Sydney. Programs are not available for viewing outside the AFTRS library, except at INPUT sanctioned events.
