INPUT 2000 - Halifax, Canada

The film and television industry is booming in the year 2000, and Halifax is showing the world how we're producing television 'on the edge'. INPUT 2000: Television on the Edge, May 14-20, 2000, is being hosted by CBC Halifax as a week-long showcase of television excellence from around the world.

INPUT is the only international conference that focuses specifically on content and innovative programming produced by public broadcasters. An international jury of peers reviews hundreds of submissions from over 50 member countries each year. They select the 85 to 100 most innovative, provocative productions to be shown over five full days.

Producers, directors, journalists, film makers and program managers from all over the world attend INPUT to screen, discuss, debate, critique, challenge and learn from each other.

INPUT delegates are wildly passionate about the responsibilities and possibilities of television in public broadcasting. Most importantly, they are wildly passionate about the world-wide audience for these supremely informative, challenging and entertaining programs.

From INPUT's inception 22 years ago, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/Société Radio-Canada has been a stalwart supporter and leader. As a founding member of INPUT, CBC/SRC is very proud to be chosen as the host for INPUT 2000: Television on the Edge, being held from May 14-20, 2000.

Our historic capital city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, perched on the edge of Canada's east coast, is buzzing with the excitement and honour of hosting over 1,000 of the world's most creative, groundbreaking film makers and story-tellers.

In addition to programming a superlative conference on public television, INPUT intends to showcase the best of what the city, the province, the region and the country have to offer. Some events being held include an opening ceremony on Citadel Hill, special workshops on current issues in the film and television industry, as well as numerous screenings of films from around the world. INPUT 2000: Television on the Edge will push the boundaries of public television and motivate delegates to take it to the limit.
