23. What's the Pitch? A Journey to New Formats on International Television

Presenters: Claudia Schreiner & Roek Lips
Wednesday,  12 May - 09:30 Green Room

In an ever growing media world the hunger for fresh ideas, content and formats is hardly to be satisfied. How do new programmes develop? What are the incentives that set a creative process on fire? Is there still empty space to be filled with new ideas or has everything already been invented and shown, are new programmes just variations of known formats?

In this session we will discuss recent format innovations in international television. From Finland to the Philippines, from Belgium to Israel – programmes from all over the world prove that today’s television is trying to be on the edge of creativity.

New formats emerge from new media and include them successfully. Old formats come back to life with a refreshing concept.

Some formats merge with other formats, creating something brand new. Producers use social media to access decision-makers in real-time and connect them directly to their audience to create a national debate about the news.

A health format gives its audience the chance to interact and by that risks to loose a patient live on the operating table.

In cooperation with EBU’s Eurovision we will look at the most innovative programmes of the last months and some that are still to come.
