1. Surviving in the market: maintaining quality, quantity, and creativity of programming in public service television In recent years, INPUT has featured programs like: Finland's "Triptych", an imaginative way to make exciting, inexpensive drama that attracts national audiences.Israel's "In Treatment," a new concept for a drama series that was produced at little cost and has become a format that has been adapted internationally as well.
2. Fresh ideas for younger audiences: where can we get them?
A Dutch public broadcaster recently opened a week of its schedule to any truly new format program and then asked viewers to help judge their success in a web-based forum. How are you getting fresh ideas and new people involved in public service broadcasting?
3. Media cooperation or fusion / cross-platform production and delivery: Think of how ARTE's experiment with Gaza/Sderot - combining television and web delivery for a program that is of acute international interest.
4. Dealing with interference and censorship: political and economic issues.
How can you keep the would-be censors at bay? Do the politicians and sponsors want influence over content? Or is auto-censorship your biggest issue? How can public television remain daring and provocative
5. Technology and content: who's leading whom?
Every year there's a new gadget, a new technology. Do the engineers rule?
Are they giving us greater freedom when they push HD? Do audiences care?
What about cheap technology? How has DV or even mobile phone technology changed what we do - and what we can do?
